Yin yoga and Chinese medicine - Earth Element with Alison and Roslyn
Earth (SPLEEN AND STOMACH MERIDIANS)
Nourish and balance the Spleen and Stomach meridians and tune into the Late summer season.
In a series of five workshops Yin yoga teacher, Alison Melvin and acupuncturist, Roslyn Go will deepen your understanding of Yin yoga and how it relates to Chinese medicine and the meridian system. Looking at each of the five elements in turn, we will practice with the relevant Yin-Yang meridians and work with nourishing the emotions connected with the corresponding organs.
Central to Daoist philosophy are the concepts of Yin-Yang (the Dao) and the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water). The Dao is the intrinsic balance of everything. It is the tranquility found in the middle of all events, and the path leading to the centre. It gives us a perspective that helps us to find balance among these changing elements which make up every aspect of nature and as human beings, we are an integral part of it.
According to Chinese Medicine Late summer is seen as its own season with a character that is as unique as the other four traditional seasons. This time of year is all about centering, grounding and balance and it provides us some excellent opportunities to nourish our bodies, especially the digestive system. This workshop will focus on Yin Yoga poses to stretch and strengthen the legs for a grounded connection to the earth meanwhile moving from our centre. The goal is to enhance vitality and nourish qualities such as equanimity and balance that relate to the Earth element and it’s organs. During the workshop lecture we will also discuss how to nourish the Earth element with appropriate foods and a handout will be provided.
The workshop will end with Roslyn giving a mini-acupuncture session during Savasana to balance and experience the flow of Qi. Alison and Roslyn are excited to share their passion and knowledge with you in these unique Yin yoga and TCM workshops. All workshops are open to everyone with an interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine and/or Yin yoga. No previous yoga experience is required.
Yin Yoga respects the individual, their body and physical and mental condition, and is suitable for people of all ages.
